International Post Doctoral Fellowship

The International Medical Toxicology (MT) postdoctoral fellowship program, trains International Medical Graduates over a 24-month period in the field of medical toxicology.

Program Competencies

After completion of the training program, postdoctoral fellows will achieve competency in the following topic areas:

  • The assessment and management of acutely and chronically poisoned patients
  • The mechanism of action, clinical indications, and proper use of antidotes and antivenoms
  • The evaluation of public health outbreaks
  • Administrative operations at a Poison Center
  • Toxicological laboratory testing methods
  • The clinical indications and management of patients receiving extracorporeal methods, such as hemodialysis and plasmapheresis, to enhance the clearance of toxicants
  • Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear-Explosives (CBRNE) terrorism preparedness and response
  • Clinical care of HAZMAT victims
  • Forensic aspects of toxicology
  • Clinical toxicology research
  • Toxicology education of other health care providers

Program Components and Requirements

Program Components and Requirements

Education

  • Participate in weekly educational sessions and conferences at local, regional, state, national and international venues.

Clinical

  • Attend clinical rounds as an observer
  • Attend the Occupational-Environmental Toxicology clinic as an observer

Research

  • Attend research training seminars
  • Serve as an investigator in a research topic under the supervision of one of the medical toxicology faculty
  • Write and present one poster presentation at the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology
  • Submit for publication a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal

Application - Start date is usually July 1st however other dates may be considered based on availability of positions.
