::::::::: Residents ::::
Teaching activities for residents are multiple and diverse. All residents are involved as lecturers for the emergency department's didactic conferences. In 2002, the Emergency Medicine Residency Program increased its class size to 18 residents per year. The program currently has 54 residents.
Our department also provides courses for a mandatory Emergency Medicine rotation for medical students from Emory University SOM and for visiting students and residents rotating in the Grady Memorial Hospital Emergency Care Center (ECC) and the Emory University and Emory University Hospital Midtown emergency departments.
Residents may certify as instructors in ACLS and ATLS and participate in continuing medical education courses for prehospital providers. The Department of Emergency Medicine pays for residents to be members of ACEP, EMRA, and SAEM throughout their training. These memberships are financially supported by the Department of Emergency Medicine throughout their training. Financial support is also available for residents interested in attending conferences.
Residents graduate with the ability to practice independently in any demanding emergency department in the country. Roughly 25 percent of our graduates stay in academics and have an excellent track record of obtaining the faculty position or fellowship of their choice. The majority of our residents enter community practices and are recruited nationally. As the only training program in Atlanta, Emory University Emergency Medicine residents have the advantage in the regional market.
You may direct correspondence to any Emory University Emergency Medicine resident through the Emergency Medicine chief residents at emcr@listserv.cc.emory.edu You may also wish to view a list of our current residents below.
