Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Research Center (EMRC). The EMRC is located on the first floor of the Steiner building on the Grady Memorial Hospital campus and is part of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University. The mission of the EMRC is to promote and facilitate high quality research in the area of urgent and emergent conditions in order to improve health outcomes for patients. The Center provides a forum for Emergency Medicine faculty, staff, residents, and students to exchange ideas and develop novel approaches to clinical problems through high quality Emergency Medicine research. Our key values are scientific integrity, methodological rigor, creativity, and clinical relevance.

Hospitals
The EMRC supports research at three clinical facilities, each with their own unique patient population and expertise. The three facilities are the Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory University Hospital, and Grady Memorial Hospital emergency departments.

EMRC Staff

• Full-time statistician: We have a full-time statistician who also has a dual appointment in the School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology.
• Trial coordinator: We have a full-time trial coordinator who has regulatory experience and has supervised industry and federally-funded clinical trials.
• Research assistants: Through grants and work study funds, our department has a large cadre of research assistants to assist with data collection, patient enrollment, and data entry.
• Undergraduate research clinical team: We have 20-30 undergraduate students available for patient enrollment and screening 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. These students are participating in one of three research courses offered through Georgia Tech and led by Dr. David Wright.

Experience
Our research directors, Dr. Deb Houry and Dr. David Wright, both have federally-funded research projects. In addition, the emergency department has experience running clinical trials and Emory University supports a federally-funded General Clinical Research Center. Currently, our emergency department is second in the nation for NIH funding for Emergency Medicine.

Collaborations
The EMRC has active research collaborations with the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Trauma Surgery, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, Poison Control, and Pediatrics. We also actively collaborate with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rollins School of Public Health, multiple Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, and others.

::::::::: Fellowships  ::::
We currently offer a research fellowship for board-certified or board-eligible emergency physicians. This two-year fellowship offers didactic courses in addition to research training in the fellow’s area of interest.
