EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES [EMS] FELLOWSHIP Overview Goals Entry Requirements Contact Us
::::::::: Overview ::::
The EMS fellow will serve as Assistant Medical Director for Grady EMS and Assistant Medical Director for Emory Flight. In continuous operation since 1892, Grady EMS is one of the oldest ambulance services in the United States. Presently, the service responds to approximately 95,000 calls per year making Grady EMS the largest hospital-based ambulance service in the country. Grady EMS has a service area of 142 square miles and is the designated 911 ambulance provider for the city of Atlanta. Emory Flight serves the citizens of Georgia by providing a 24/7 emergency medical response to critically ill and injured patients who require expert medical care and rapid transport to the nearest most appropriate medical center. Each Emory Flight helicopter is staffed with a pilot, critical care flight nurse, and flight paramedic who bring together clinical expertise and medical technology at a cruising speed of 140 MPH to offer critically ill and injured patients the best chance of survival.
Opportunities will be afforded to work with our affiliated agencies, Rural Metro Ambulance Service, and the Emory First Responders. The EMS fellow will also gain experience with the Atlanta Fire Department, Fulton County Fire Department, Fulton County 911 Communications Center, and Fulton County Office of EMS. The fellowship also offers opportunities to work collaboratively with Emory Emergency Medicine's International Health program, the Center for Injury Control and the Center for Public Health Preparedness at the Rollins School of Public Health, the Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The EMS fellow will join the faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine as Instructor of Emergency Medicine in the Emory University School of Medicine. As a full-time faculty member, the EMS fellow will have access to the Courtesy Scholarship Program as prescribed by the Employee Benefits Office at Emory University. We encourage fellows to pursue a master's degree in public health (MPH) or business (MBA).
Small group sessions will be guided by the EMS faculty at Emory on a bi-monthly basis covering topics as delineated in the EMS fellowship core curriculum. An EMS journal club is also scheduled every other month.
