Maureen Joyner, MD:
Maureen Joyner, M. D., a graduate of Spelman College, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and Emory University’s Emergency Medicine residency program, has been on the faculty since 2006. She serves as a Core Educator for Medical Student Education and Chair of the department’s Diversity Council.
Dr. Joyner is currently featured in our faculty spotlight in conjunction with the kickoff of the department’s Diversity Initiative for the 2009-10 academic year. This initiative focuses on four key areas: recruitment and retention, education, community outreach, and scholarly activity. Dr. Joyner is excited about the department’s commitment to these areas of focus, particularly as they relate to increasing cultural awareness among students, residents, and faculty and addressing health care disparities in the patient population that our Emergency Departments serve.
In addition to these roles, Dr. Joyner also serves on the Grady ECC Performance Improvement Committee and is the coordinator for an outreach program with Grady High School’s Health Science Academy.
